When Life Imitates AI – Debut Solo Exhibition at The Gala

Salt Lake City, 2025 – When Life Imitates AI, the debut solo exhibition by transdisciplinary artist Yuskadd, offers a thought-provoking exploration of the intersections between human creativity and artificial intelligence. Hosted at The Gala, this exhibition delves into the nuanced boundary where human imagination meets the structured logic of algorithms, questioning what remains uniquely human in a world increasingly influenced by automatic creation and recreation through AI image generators. Yuskadd (Yuri Ortiz), born in Cuautla, Morelos, México, brings a deeply personal narrative to her art. Living “on the other side“—a concept she describes as embracing otherness—her work reflects resistance, survival, and a challenge to established norms through authenticity. Her artistic journey, shaped by profound life experiences, defies societal expectations and explores the limits of creativity through diverse media such as painting, sculpture, tufting, and object intervention. The central theme of the exhibition lies in recreating her own works across mediums, paralleling how AI generates images based on pre-existing data. However, Yuskadd’s process transcends mere replication. By infusing emotion, intuition, and imperfection, she reinterprets her creations, demonstrating how human creativity diverges from the predictable nature of machines. In When Life Imitates AI, Yuskadd invites viewers to reflect on a critical question: What will happen when life begins to emulate artificial intelligence?
